What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is a search engine- like Yahoo or Google- where you can earn points for searching, viewing videos, completing surveys or other activities. These points can be exchanged for various rewards in their gift shop, such as Amazon giftcards and Paypal funds.

Is Swagbucks a scam?

No, it actually works. I've earned over $80 in gift cards so far, as of October 2013- and I'm still earning more money, bit by bit. Once you order a gift card, it takes about a week to process and show up under My Gift Cards- then you can use it. I've never had them lose a gift card.

How does it work?

After you sign up and log in, you can use Swagbucks just like any other search engine. At times, you will earn points when searching- this is confirmed by a small pop-up at the top of the screen. You can exchange these points for various items, including Amazon gift cards and various prizes.

There are several non-searching ways to earn points, such as taking surveys (which, to be honest, are a tediou pain,) signing up for email offers and watching videos.

My personal fave is Swagbucks TV: you can get points for watching videos in various Youtube-like "channels", devoted to various topics. I typically watch the animal channels or the technology ones, but they have channels for almost every topic.

You have to input a CAPTCHA code every 10 videos or so to confirm that you're watching, but the points (and videos) add up quickly.

If you keep the videos going while you read, search & do schoolwork, you can easily get 30-50 points per day. (As a $5 Amazon Gift Card is only 450 points in their store, it's possible to get an extra $5 for books and mp3s every week or so, with some work.)

How can I get the most money from Swagbucks?

The Swagbucks Amazon gift cards are about 50 points less per-dollar-value than the Paypal gift cards, and are available in smaller denominations (the lowest-value Amazon gift card is a $5 card for 450 points, while their cheapest Paypal gift card is a $25 one...

The Paypal card is "real" money, and you can tranfer it to your bank account to pay rent & stuff, but if you're going to buy something that's available on Amazon (like a textbook or SD card), it's cheaper and faster to get the Amazon cards.

The Swagbucks Rewards Store also has Walmart gift cards, starting at low $5 ones and going up to $25 cards. If you're running low on money, they can help make ends meet.
